Dentures
Do you have missing teeth, or are you starting to lose your natural teeth? Dentures could be the solution you’ve been searching for. Dr. Sharda and our team have helped countless patients throughout High Point, Summerfield, Oak Ridge, Greensboro, NC and the surrounding areas get their confidence in their smiles back thanks to our realistic-looking and highly functional dentures.
Dentures are a prosthetic device that are used to replace missing teeth. There are a few different denture options to choose from. Depending on your dental issues, one type may be more beneficial than another.
Conventional
A conventional denture can be placed once the remaining teeth have been removed and the oral tissue has healed. The downside to the type of denture is that they take longer, as the mouth needs time to heal properly. Healing can take several months; an experienced restorative dentist will provide you with a full set of removable dentures. Once healed, your new dentures will be fully customized to fit in your mouth properly.
Immediate
This type of denture can be inserted the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. Immediate dentures are used during the healing process. This allows patients to have a full set of dentures to eat and drink with. Unlike conventional dentures, these are not custom-made, which can cause some fitting issues with some patients. The upside is that these type of dentures are not a permanent solution, they are a stepping stone to getting a conventional set.
Overdenture
An overdenture looks like a conventional denture from the outside, but it’s secured in the mouth by dental implants instead of adhesive. An overdenture is an option for those who are missing all or most of their teeth. One of the biggest benefits of overdentures is that they will prevent bone resorption, which causes the jawbone to weaken. By supporting the dentures with dental implants, patients are able to enjoy their life without the fear of bone loss.
Rinse dentures after eating: Dentures should be rinsed to prevent food from building up on them. The easiest time to rinse your dentures is after meals because you just ate, and it will be easiest to remember.
Clean your mouth after removing your dentures: Cleaning your mouth after removing your dentures is equivalent to brushing your teeth at night. It is important to clean your mouth after removing your dentures to prevent bad breath and create a clean space in your mouth to put your dentures in when the morning comes.
Brush your dentures daily: Dentures need to be cleaned just like real teeth because they are used to chew food. When humans chew food throughout the day there are always a few foods that get stuck in our teeth, which is why flossing and brushing daily is so important.
Soak dentures overnight:
Soaking your dentures overnight will prevent them from losing their shape. You can soak them in water, or you can get a solution made for dentures to soak them in. If you use the solution to soak your dentures, just be sure to rinse them before putting them back in your mouth in the morning.
The ideal candidate for dentures must have healthy gums and a strong jawbone. These two elements are key to having a comfortable and well-fitting set of dentures. They're a perfect solution for people who are missing many of their teeth. For those who are only missing one or two teeth, a dental implant or bridge may be more suitable. During a denture consultation, our restorative dentist will examine the health of your gums and jawbone to determine if dentures are right for you.
Damaged and missing teeth can cause a number of issues for people. From bite and chewing problems to teeth shifting and TMJ pain, missing teeth cause a lot of discomfort when they’re not replaced properly. A set of dentures allows you to restore the appearance and function of your smile. Whether you’re looking for a conventional set or want an overdenture, a restorative dentist will find the right service for your needs and budget.
